The Forest: A Thrilling Survival Game that Won’t Break the Bank
As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate the deep discounts Steam offers for games. It’s not uncommon for me to wait years before grabbing a title during a holiday sale, and The Forest is one of those games that I finally scooped up for just under $2. Despite its age, The Forest still packs a punch, offering a thrilling survival experience that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Flight

As the game opens you find yourself on a plane. One thing that immediately struck me as funny was the sheer amount of leg room you seem to have. As we all know, that screen would be close to touching his nose on a plane today!
As you glance to your right you see your son sleeping soundly against your arm, and you notice a book on his tray. Grabbing this book will advance the game.
This book will become your lifeline as the game continues.
And then of course you hit turbulence and all hell breaks loose! The plane goes down!

Things takes a dark turn when you come to after the plane crashes and discover that someone or something has taken your child. This is where things get intense, and it’s clear that survival will be key if you want to make it out of this island alive.

As I emerged from the wreckage, my first priority was finding food. Luckily, there were plenty of items scattered around, and I quickly got to work crafting tools and building shelter.
As I continued, I discovered a vast crafting system which I only need gather materials for.

The game drops you into a beautiful but unforgiving world, full of unknown dangers and mysteries waiting to be uncovered. I won’t spoil too much, but let’s just say that the experience has left me eager for more.
VR Compatible
Another selling point for me was that this game is VR compatible! While I started my journey on my PC, like many of you I have a New Year’s resolution to get in better shape, and what better way than with VR gaming!
